how to make C/F. or F/G. cockpit frames

Postby blackfingernail » 28 Apr 2010, 22:53

I found this on the Radio control scale builder web site to open most blogs you have to join and its free.
One of the master craftsman on this site Detlef Kunkel who lives in Germany i am following 2 of his builds on this site.
The first is a V4 engine he has designed and is building the mind boggles at his skill and the second is a Mick Reeves 1/4 scale Spitfire and his and other comments on this kit are interesting, its not just him who is having trouble check out the rcu web-site as well and think twice as on all the blogs there are problems with it.
This is his method of building a carbon fiber cockpit it looks easy!!

***** PS. i have found that the attachments have vanished so i have removed the empty files and you will have to hunt them down on the RCSB. web-site under Mick Reeves section and look for Detlef Kunkel blog, i might add Detlef is a master craftsman in all things pertaining to our hobby and you will learn a lot from his blogs.
Dave.

This i found on RCU web-site its a more descriptive version then the first blog.
You will note in this version you start with very light F/G. so that it molds to the contours of the cockpit frame and finish again with very fine cloth. The cut out finished frame then fits over the existing frame to give you the windows and you then get the depth/thickness look of the metal frame from the F/G. mold.
Looks easy give it a go but do not forget to cover in Mold release and perhaps F/G. mold release wax polish and when applying them don't do what i did but follow the instructions on the polish and mold release.
