So are you building one?

I've been flying a tricopter for a while now, mostly via FPV. amazing little things and a whole new RC experience.

I think most would recommend against the props you suggest, 5" is a little bit too much pitch. Not that it won't fly, but the slow fly props are much better they are designed for hovering. My prop of choice at the moment is the APC 11x3.8, or 10x4.7 All SF props.

I have a HK quad on the way right now, I bought it on a whim to fill my cart up.

Thanks Mike...I did the same, but some of my bits are in backorder.

The Quad Copter needs 2 Standard and 2 Counter Rotating.

The 9x5's seem to do this, so I will try these until someone can identify a pair of SF's in the pitches you suggest.

If you can't get your hands on APC, these are worth a try: http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=go ... oductname=

They come with a word of warning though, I've managed to break two in flight on my tri, but that's partly because of the way I fly it, and partly because my tri is heavy (1.16kg) and putting it's power through only three props. I think a lighter weight quad will do OK with them.

They usually come with free shipping, and Rctimer does a bulk pack as well. If you're early on the learning to fly curve, you need lots of props... ;)

HK have just received a shipment of Quad Copter control boards and have reserved on for me, BUT they still have -11 on backorder.

It looks like this device has caught us modellers imagination at <$30 and they cannot keep up with demand.

......so order yours and the supporting bits and you will float to the top of the supply chain.

grin grin grin.......here comes the fun!

The Great Lonzo

If you're serious about multirotors, this has got to be one of the best controller boards out there:

http://www.multiwiicopter.com/collectio ... v3-0-naked

I bought one as I was still doing my research and ended up building it up OK. I added my own sourced Wii Motion Plus and Nunchuck, which made my board cost about $65, but he sells a complete board for around $150 if that's your preference. Mine turned out much easier than I expected after following this build guide: http://www.multiwiicopter.com/pages/multiwiicopter-wiki and the video's on his site. He's also based in Australia.

The HK controller board might be OK, but it misses out on the biggest benefit (my POV) for multi rotor flying, and that is Level mode from the Wii Nunchuck. The Wii based boards are also infinitely more adjustable, with separate adjustable parameters for P, I and D on each axis. Having said that, my first tricopter was based on 4 cheap HK gyros and it flew quite well with only gain adjustment, just not in the league of a "proper" controller.

Word of warning when you start in multirotors; they are seriously addictive, then strap a camera on it and WOW...

Mike this is fantastic..a rebirth...I spent 10 years in R&D developing embedded processors to do all sorts of esoteric things.

I spent this arvo in wonderland following links and downloading 300mb of development tools.

This looks great.

After I get the HK thing going I should get one of these....

Thanks....g

OMG lonzo (Oh my god) having discovered the multiwii path and with a knowledge of thing RC you will be fine!!!

For me, the whole FPV thing via tricopter has been a total eye opener. once, I thought all I wanted to do in RC was to fly a nice circuit, a rolling harrier and hover over the runway. Then I discovered copter flying via FPV. My 30% Yak is gathering dust...

It's a great hobby...at the leading edge of a lot of technologies....no boundaries when you are keen.

My cancer councilor says I am really lucky to have a hobby like this one.....she notices my spirits lift whenever I talk about it....in the valley of death!
