Spitfire scale detail

Postby blackfingernail » 21 Apr 2009, 13:25

I came across this trawling through the web sites fantastic workmanship, i look at this and say to myself "why do i bother".
Its destined for a 1/4 scale electric MK9 Spitfire pilot door latch about 100inch wingspan.

Another incredible MK 1V Spitfire, 1/3 scale all it needs is a 1/3 scale Merlin any takers?
In fact there is a 1/4 scale Merlin running somewhere on U-Tube.

Gday guys, Great to see these new forums up and running... oh by the way, Ive heard on the grape vine that Comp ARF are just about to release an all new 1/4 fully moulded composite airframe Spitfire. As you may probably know I am a bit of a Spitty fan myself. The new Comp ARF one I will be taking a close look at for sure....

My Brian Taylor Spitty is currently undergoing an overhaul and I hope to have her back in the air again later this year complete with new undercarriage and fresh new paint job!

I have been following this thread as its electric and out of the normal mold of large gas donks.

The power set-up is now as follows...................
Motor - Hacker H-200/8
ESC - Jeti 'Spin' 300
Cells - 14s 13,500Mah Dualsky LiPo's
Prop - Solo 'variable pitch' 3 blade, 30" diameter, 16" pitch
Max static rpm - 4,700
Max static current @ full power - 247A
Safe flight time - 6 minutes
I don,t know anything on all this electric jargon but someone out there may find it informative also some flying shots below.

16 Spitfires over Duxford, its been a long time since this has happened and a shot of my latest efforts a 1/5 Pica Spitfire once started by the late Tony Velor.
This wing has had the prep coat a sealer for the water based poly i will be putting the fiber glass on with.
You have to seal the wood before applying the poly or you will warp the wood.
The shape of this wing is beautiful.
