Here’s the maiden flight for Dave Pound’s huge TA152. She’s being put through her certification, including required aerobatics, prior to Dave investing the time required to add the canopy, paint job and scale finish. Comment from Dave: In the video on the first landing attempt i came into the approach to high and to steep. So it was too fast and would have run off the end of the strip and had to go around, but on the throttle up the engine did not clear from the tick-over decent and went rich on mid-range and i should have pulled up the retracts as well and it was struggling on the climb out and at 45 pound i need all the power i can get, at the top of the climb out i could see it starting to stall so i turned left and went with the torque of the motor, pointed the nose down and all was sweet again.
The next attempt i pulled the throttle off quicker and it looked good on the decent but when the wheels touched down i could see it starting to trip up it was still going to fast and so gave it a bit of elevator and one bounce and it was home.
The airfoil is a Clerk Y so has bags of lift and it is a real floater so will be difficult to slow down to get the drop before i run out of runaway, considering how my knees were knocking not a bad landing.
Boy am i glad that flight is over.
