FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
It is so nice to hear from many Members about the Mag, sometimes it is complimentary, sometimes critical, but nevertheless always constructive.
This issue completes 6 years of editing of the Mag by me, it has been a fulfilling experience which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
To say that I am frustrated by so many Members with experiences in the hobby totalling many 1000's of years remaining out there silent and not contributing is a gross understatement, but I have just about given up on pursuing that gripe.
My total disappointment is, however, after putting in very many long hours in putting the Mag together is to find out that there are quite a few Members who don't even open it up to read it. Anyway, it's their loss.
It is time for more Members to take an active interest in the general running of the Club, let me assure you that your contribution will be gratefully accepted.
We look forward to a great year, WRCS remains committed to the multi-discipline nature of the club catering for all types of aero modelling.
This attitude and commitment is reflected in the Competitions Calendar which hopefully caters for all Members' interests, we can only hope that this year's competitions are well attended again. Any positive and constructive comments would be welcomed.
Over my years of involvement at WRCS, in spite of the fact that I myself remain a novice flyer, I have seen those who have attended and participated in the competition events improve their flying techniques by leaps and bounds. I heartily recommend that all Members try to participate in as many events as they can.
On behalf of my family and myself, I wish all our Members and their families a happy, healthy and successful 2006.
Keep'em flying,
Tom

On opening the computer I was confronted by an oxymoron of gigantic proportions ... there it was!! ... Windows Works!

George Atkinson has been selected in the Australian Heli Team to compete in the World Championships in Japan in September 2006. Congratulations George!

Whilst on the subject of skills, we hear that Shane Austin has won the last 4 Sportsman class Aerobatic competitions around the traps. Well done Shane!

Garry Welsh was recently requested to represent WRCS at MAS meetings. He is doing a great job and his information bulletins to the T-6 comp entrants for the Cootamundra Racing was excellent and much appreciated.
On that subject, WRCS competitors filled more than 50% of entrants in that T-6 competition, congratulations to Luke Swinkels who came 3rd.

While removing the glow driver just before the last race at Coota, Ron Clark managed to put his fingers through the prop. He claims that the racing prop didn't have the white tips like the run-in prop did. Lots of blood and a trip to the doctors, and Ron got back just in time for the presentations (he came in 7th) with his arm in a sling and a lot of bandaging and a bunch of stitches and a sheepish grin on his face and a timid stance. Luckily no apparent tendon damage or bone chips and all bits working OK. When asked when he will fly again he assured everybody  ”Oh ... I ... think I’ll be OK to fly later in the week!” ... and he did, 5 days later.

CHRISTMAS PARTY 2005
What started out as perfect conditions were temporarily disrupted by huge gusts of wind, but the Members and families who gathered really enjoyed the day as shown in the pics.

Above and left: Mr McGoo's Catering up to its usual high standard enjoyed by everyone. Thanks Mr McGoo and Steffi Grech for organising such a great evening

Santa was on hand to give presents to the kids, ...

but did he find out if you were naughty or nice!?!?

he didn't discriminate against size or age ...

Above: There's one in every crowd. Mike Minty renewed his practice of camping on site ... safer than driving home for some?

Right: Mike Minty was also on hand to demonstrate his control line skills

Members enjoyed the evening with their loved ones and friends

Above and top left: Face painting for the kids, with face artists Lynette Austen and Steffi Grech busy. Lucas Riebolge enjoyed having a tiger in the tank.

Below and right: To make the evening truly special, raffle prizes were won by Lucas Riebolge; John Rayner and Shane Austin

FROM THE HANGAR
This month we feature Garry Welsh's "2005 Pylon Racer" fleet on our cover photo. These models were purpose built for the specific events held in 2005 at the Adelaide Races and at Cootamundra, yet the Corsair is constructed so that it was entered for the NSW F4 C State Championships at Doonside.
This is of course most unusual and all credit must go to Garry for this great effort.

The Corsair F4U (11LF)
We have previously featured this model in some of the '05 Mags, it is based on the aircraft about to join Tony Raftis'  collection.
Members will recall that Garry raced this model at the Adelaide Races and had a major collision with one of the pylons, pics of the extent of the damage have been in previous Mags, yet it has been restored to its elegant beauty and was again displayed at the Christmas Party with its racing partner.

Joke AT-6 Texan 47LF (for racing only)
This model was purpose built for its class to compete at Cootamundra. The rules required either a Midwest kit or construction to identical specifications or some other approved kit. Engine size was limited to unmodified 1.20 cu" normal capacity, maximum weight for the model was set at 14lbs.
Along with other Members of WRCS, Garry prepared for this competition and was the pivotal link in making sure that our racing Members were informed of construction methods and hints, and Garry helped assure the success of the event.

A JUMBO EFFORT
We have previously features pics of giant models made and flown by Peter Michel in Germany. With the recent visit of the A380 that Qantas will be flying soon (see the pic in last month's Mag), your editor's attention has been drawn to the model of this giant by Peter. Maybe Peter will make one in Qantas livery sometime.
If you wish to see more pictures of Peter's models and much more of the A380 why not visit his site, you can enter through the LINKS on our Club page. There is also informative commentary, but unfortunately it is in German only

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
We don't know where, we don't know when ... but we are told that the pilot survived this crash.
Obviously a religious person and if he wasn't before then he is now.
This photo doesn't need a caption..

January Caption - Just for Fun!
Here is something new which we hope to be running run each month in the Mag this year. This is a picture downloaded from the Internet (credit to whoever took it) which lends itself to a funny caption ... so how about contributing one!
I have started it off with my own suggestion but I feel confident that you people out there can do so much better.
Send your entry to the Editor by email to editor@wrcs.org.au and the winning entry will be published next month.
AND THE PRIZE? ... Yes, there is one!! At great expense your Committee has agreed to provide a bottle of red to be presented at the X-mas Party 2006

BUILDING YOUR T-6?
If you are interested in the AT6 and looking for a “different” colour scheme call Mike Minty on 9810 6069 and borrow his “T-6 TEXAN THE IMMORTAL TRAINER” book by William Jesse. It has 128 pages of colour photos of about 50 different schemes so there’s no excuse for an all yellow one!
