An Average Saturday at Belrose

Here some pictures taken at our flying field in Belrose on Sat, 13th March 2010. Just a very normal flying day but the cameras were out in force, and apologies to anyone that doesn't feature this time...

Click [read more] on the right.

First some pictures of Clive's Rutan Defiant. Pictures before the maiden flight....(Ed saying a prayer - which, with hindsight, was aimed at the wrong deity)

in case you are wondering... that's Col Buckley on the left

...and after the maiden! Read the full story of the Ratan maiden flight here.

Col Buckley had his new Storch out as well. .....

Tony's touch and go routine was smooth as ever, even in the strong wind. Have you ever noticed how Tony's engines smell different when they are cooking? Maybe it's the absence of nitro...

Last preparations.... Last preparations....

Peter Wyss and his FunJet. Powered by a 6 cell 2650mAh LiPo this little foamy is a hot contender for the title of the fastest plane on the field. Speed is estimated to be around 200+ km/h!

A Parkzone HABU EDF (Electric Ducted Fan). A very nice flying small jet with retracts and enough power for unlimited vertical performance.

Last preparations.... Last preparations....

Here a short take off video of the HABU. The jet was too fast for the cameraman so all we get to see is the take off. The rest of the video showed plenty of trees and clouds but no plane Laughing

This is Tom's GeeBee Racer. A big, beautiful model with plenty of pace, and no trouble with the wind either (although there was a bit of trouble hearing the Gee Bee above Clive's Defiant when both engines came on-song - to sing their lament as it transpired).

Ron tested his new pattern ship. It's so quiet that Ron might have to install a silencer bypass so he can check whether the engine is still running when he's on finals.

Mr Menzies continues his support of all things electric, which is all well and good, but does deprive him of the joy of a good post flight cleaning session.

Stan wanted something that he could just throw in the car and fly - without several trips to the car park for bits and pieces, so he turned up with this. Looks nice - sounds nice - flies nice. Stan's idea of a weekend hack is my idea of a Sunday best - Ed!
