A few people have suggested that we rekindle the one-make comp. This used to be a WRCS favourite, with people using the Plagiarist as the aircraft of choice. Unfortunately, the Plagiarist isn't available now, but there are options:

The idea would be:

  • One aircraft, built as standard, with minor modifications to trim/covering to aid identification when several are flying together
  • Any ordinary sport IC motor up to, say, 46 size. No rear exhaust, no exotic racing engines (so OS, Super Tigre, Thunder Tiger, ASP, GMS etc would be fine, provided they were 46 or under (no 47 or over!!!))
  • 10X6 prop suitable for IC motors (we could go with a one-make prop too)
  • Standard exhaust - no taking out baffles
  • Standard fuel - up to 10% nitro
  • Servos - either as the model intended, or allow people to upgrade servo set-up if they wished
  • Events - maybe 10 races throughout the year, usually on the same day that we had another major event, as a sideshow. Each person's best (say) 5 scores from the year would count, so no need to attend every event
  • Models can be replaced in the event of a damage
  • Only one pilot per model at each event (ie no model sharing)
  • Open to bronze and gold wings
  • Lots of fun
There are a few choices of model that we could use. I've just tried a Phoenix Scanner (costs $127 or less) - see my review HERE. Other ideas and suggestions would be very welcome.
This will come up for discussion on club night on 6th Feb. If you have views and would like to participate in this fun fly class, please either come along or email your comments to Clive and Kelvin by clicking This email address is being protected from spambots. On the evenings of 24th and 25th Jan, there is an environmental study taking place in the bushland and ridge top around our flying field. There will be representatives from GIS Environmental Consultants pitching tents to the east of our sheds for the two nights, and leaving the field around 8 or 9am the next morning. We've made arrangements for access to the field, but please give them any help they need.

Starting around 12th February, the club is having some extra pavers installed around the arming tables to make things a bit more comfortable there.

Over the months following, we're also having some work done on the roadway between the wooden gate at the top of the hill, and the carpark, as this road has been deteriorating and is now pretty rough on vehicles (and occupants). We'll need to close the field for a couple of days whilst this roadwork is done, but we'll put an alert up on the website to give people plenty of time to plan around the closure.

With the technical hiccups on the website last year, I wasn't able to upload Mike's excellent report on the November Scale Day. So I've dusted off the cobwebs and am posting it now.

It's a great read - click HERE to download it.

I'm very pleased to let you know that Kelvin King has agreed to sit on the committee of WRCS, effective immediately, to bring valuable ideas and support through to the next committee nomination/election process in June 2014.

There have been plenty of calls to bring someone who isn't of "grandparenting age" onto the committee, and Kelvin will bring that along with some highly devleoped flying skills and experience with serious aerobatic and racing planes.

Please join me in welcoming Kelvin. We're very grateful for his (and his wife's) agreement to the role!
