Here's another tweak to the website - event registration.

Our long-suffering competition director would like an idea of how many people will be supporting each event so now, for registered users, you can let him know!

If you aren't, yet, set up with a registered user account on the site, go to bottom right and click on register to do so.

register

This will take you to the registration section where you create your user account, add a photo etc. Please make sure that your password is at least 6 characters, and that you mix it up a bit so a mix of letters and numbers, for example, will work nicely.

You can then put in your username and password on the home page and ask it to remember you, if you like, next time you log in (you'll have to do this again if you delete your browsing history and cookies).

Now if you click on the FLYING events you can let us know that you'll be coming along - see registration at the bottom. We've got two for the scale event already:

There's no penalty if you can't make it, and you can come along and participate even if you weren't registered beforehand, but this just gives the organisers a feel for numbers, and gives you a feel for the competition!

Thanks

Clive

You'll see a new section under the information drop-down menu called Member Articles.

First cab off the rank is Stan Begg with a great article - part 1 of his diary around building a 92" Hurricane. You can get there via the drop-down menus or take the shortcut by clicking on the link under Latest News at the top of the home page.

The article is a PDF file - beautifully presented and ready for you to download and enjoy at your leisure.

Please feel free to send me articles to publish. If you have done all the hard work, like this one, and put it in PDF form with photos and layout all done then I'll put it up as it comes, as a downloadable file. If it is a word document or similar, I can do the conversion for you, but you'll be trusting my editorial discretion!

Articles need to be all your own work, or come with the owner's approval to reproduce on our site.

Great stuff - thanks Stan!

Following from Col Buckley:

GARIGAL CUP

A cold, cloudy day saw only five members turn up for the event. There was little or no wind and after the briefing by main judge Shane Austin, it was down to business. Visibility, due to thick rain-bearing cumulus was terrible and it was sometimes hard to see which way up aircraft came out of maneuvers. All five contestants were Gold Wings so there were no combatants to compete for Bronze Plate which was a bit of a shame.

After three flights each the winner by a small margin was Ron Clark. Runner up was CK Ng, third Tom Sparks, fourth Mark Connor and Col Buckley fifth.

Ron was delighted as he’s put a lot of hard work (and models!!) into his pattern flying. Judge Shane also noted how advanced CK has come and how smooth his pattern fly is. A very close third was Tom Sparks who flew consistently and was only a whisker behind the leaders. For Mark Connor and Col Buckley, this was their first pattern event and, when you are performing in front of your peers, it sure makes a difference when you’re “Under the Pump!”

Hopefully next year we will see more members, both Gold and Bronze have a go for the prestigious Garigal Cup. It’s a fun event that can only make you a better and more confident pilot in the long term.

(No photos to show you - the competitors were clearly 100% focused on their flying - Ed)

Lake Keepit Glider Meet:

The weekend of the 25-26-27th September, a group of WRCS members headed off to Lake Keepit which is situated half way between Tamworth and Gunnedah. At the very generous invitation of Tim Carr, the President of Lake Keepit Soaring Club and its fellow members, a great weekend was had by our group despite some inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday.

Early Thursday morning, a group from WRCS set out from Sydney on the 8 hour haul to the Victorian town of Shepparton.

It seems WRCS are now “Part of the Furniture” down there as we’ve been making this a “Must Do” event for many years.
